Shared cultures, shared roots, brighter futures.

Johannesburg – Youth members and leaders from across SA and beyond came together from 13–15 March 2026 at Arrowe Park Scout Camp in Benoni to celebrate the 16th Africa Scout Day, hosted by SCOUTS South Africa on behalf of World Scouting. Under the theme “Strong Roots. Bright Future.” the camp celebrated the values, heritage and unity that continue to shape the Scout Movement across the continent.

PatrolsThroughout the weekend, Patrols made up of Scouts from different countries and provinces experienced the spirit of international Scouting first-hand. A highlight of the camp was the host Patrol system, where Scouts from Johannesburg welcomed visiting participants, shared their tents and cooked meals for their guests. Their hospitality quickly turned strangers into Scouting friends, creating a true cultural exchange around campfires, meal tables and shared adventures at the bases.

The programme offered a wide variety of hands-on activities that reflected the diversity of modern Scouting. On the shores of Homestead Lake, Scouts tested their teamwork and courage while rowing on the water, while others took on the challenge of building a towering pioneering structure using ropes and staves.
Patrols explored global citizenship through Scouts for SDGs activities, learned about amateur radio and weather tracking using satellites, and tackled a blindfolded obstacle course that built trust and communication. Participants also engaged with the rich South African Scouting heritage, learning more about the programmes and traditions that have made Scouting in SA thrive for over 119 years.

Across the campsite, laughter, problem-solving and cooperation could be seen everywhere as Patrols moved from base to base, strengthening their Scouting skills and building friendships that crossed borders. By the closing ceremony, the camp had become a vibrant example of what Scouting represents: young people learning from one another, embracing different cultures, and growing as leaders through shared experiences.

As tents came down and Patrols prepared to return home, it was clear that the strong roots in shared values will continue to inspire a bright future for the next generation of African Scouts.

Our deepest gratitude goes to all the national and international Scouters and camp staff who worked tirelessly to ensure that the 16th Africa Scout Day celebrations were one to remember!
