Field Day

The aim of Field Day is to take part in a challenging competition and learning from others as you see how they take on the challenges, while keeping to the Scouting spirit of having fun.  Field Day offers wonderful opportunities for Scouts to obtain various advancements and learning new skills. This is a wonderful experience one that you should not miss.

The time has come to plan YOUR entry into Field Day – the event where you can expect the Unexpected!!!

Troops may camp from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. A Campfire will be held on Saturday evening at 20:30.

The Hercules Challenge (Akela Challenge) for Cubs, will be run on the Saturday afternoon.

Theme: “A Greek Odyssey”
Dates: 18 – 20 August 2023
Venue: Hartebeestfontein Kampterrein, Dinokeng, Gauteng
Programme: Troops arrive from 14:00 on Friday 18 August 2023
Opening Parade: Saturday 19 August 2023 (Time TBC)
Closing Parade: Sunday 20 August 2023 (Time TBC)
Closing date: Sunday 30 July 2023

Scouts & Scouters: R280 (includes badge)
Cubs & Pack Scouters Hercules Challenge: R140 per person (Inc entry and badge)
Day visitors: R110 per person at gate or via EFT
Parents / Friends / Family / camping: R125 per person per night at gate or via EFT

Instructions:

  1. Scouts must have turned 11 years old and not have turned 18 yet by 18 August 2023.
  2. Troops may only enter one team per competition per age group.
  3. Check each competition for specific rules / instructions applicable.

Overall Trophy:

  1. Teams will earn points in each competition. The sum of all these points will determine the team’s placement in the overall trophy.
  2. In order to qualify for the Overall Trophy, teams must run a Hercules Challenge activity. Should a team not run a Hercules Challenge activity, that team will not be eligible for the Overall Trophy.
  3. Sports events are collated into the Sports Trophy – position in the Sports Trophy will be collated into the final Overall Trophy as noted in point (1) above. There will not be a split between junior and senior scouts for the sports trophy. See competition pack for more details.

Trophies: All trophies must be handed in by 22 July. No trophy = no entry.

Parking: Parking is restricted to specifically demarcated areas. Vehicles may be off-loaded at competition sites but must then be moved to the designated parking areas. Failure to comply will result in penalties.

Akela Challenge: The Hercules Challenge runs in the Troop site.

Important:

  1. Unless otherwise stated in the Competition details, teams supply their own equipment / meal ingredients necessary for a competition.
  2. Only a certain amount of toilet paper is supplied, so please bring your own supply.
  3. Packs must register the number of Cubs entering the Hercules Challenge by Saturday 5 August 2023 to ensure enough bases are available.
