Driving change in Africa, one Rover at a time

Behind every successful event are partners who believe in the power of young people. Suzuki Auto South Africa played an important role in helping create an unforgettable experience for hundreds of Rovers from across Africa and beyond.

From creating welcoming spaces around camp to supporting programme activities and ensuring participants felt at home from the moment they arrived, Suzuki’s partnership helped bring the Moot to life. For Stuart Baker, Sales Manager of Suzuki’s Motorcycle Division, the partnership reflects Suzuki’s commitment to investing in young people. “Suzuki is a fun, youthful brand and developing young people is important to us. They are our future, they are the generation that will be leading our world and that’s why Suzuki and Scouting fit together so well.”

While manning the “Moot Motor Grand Prix with Suzuki base”, he observed the vibrant Cultural Day celebrations, where Rovers proudly shared their food, traditions and heritage with one another. “Seeing so many different cultures together, learning from each other and sharing their traditions has been brilliant. The genuine interest the Rovers are showing in each other’s cultures is brilliant! It’s the cross-pollination of cultures that makes events like this so special,” he adds.

When asked if there was anything that stood out for him, he smiled and said, “I was surprised to discover that while cycling is common in SADC and European countries, many participants had never ridden a bicycle before, making the cycling activity an exciting first experience for many from West and Central Africa.”

Organising Team Lead Damian Lahoud expressed his gratitude for the event’s partners’ commitment to the Moot. “On behalf of the 2nd Africa Scout Moot Organising Team, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Suzuki Auto South Africa, Coca Cola Beverages South Africa, Rotary District 9400, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in partnership with World Scouting under the Messengers of Peace fund for your generous support. Your partnership has helped create an unforgettable experience for hundreds of young people from across Africa and beyond. Thank you for believing in the power of youth and helping us deliver an event that will leave a lasting legacy.”

Partnerships like these ensure that Scouting continues to provide young people with opportunities to learn new skills, celebrate diversity and grow into tomorrow’s leaders.
