This week we are recognising our Scouting volunteers for the amazing impact you have on the lives of others. Today we also want to highlight the value volunteering brings to you and your well-being.
At SCOUTS South Africa, our volunteers tell us that volunteering has given them more than memories
The list of benefits is long, but here are the main ones that were shared by some of our volunteers:
- A strong sense of belonging.
When you volunteer you become part of a supportive community, of something bigger than yourself where together you are changing lives for the better. - Positive friendships.
In Scouting you are surrounded by like-minded people who want to create a better world. This opens doors for new and positive friendships and connections with fellow volunteers and young people within your community and around the world. - Increased resilience & life skills.
As a Scouting volunteer you have access to various courses and learning opportunities that help you increase your own skills-set, which in turn can help you in your daily lives outside of Scouting. - Confidence & personal growth.
Developing leadership, communication and practical skills builds confidence in our youth, but also in you as an Adult volunteer. - Time outdoors.
As a volunteer you can leave the laptops and daily chores aside and enjoy numerous camps, hikes and outdoor adventures that support mental health and well-being. - A sense of purpose.
Giving back through community service or volunteering as a leader foster meaning and value in life. By making a difference you also get to feel good about it!
These benefits of volunteering might seem like just “nice to haves”, but they’re actually essential skills for a healthy, balanced, and happy life.
