Enable unique experiences at the 2nd Africa Scout Moot!

The 2nd Africa Scout Moot team are are looking for Module Leaders to lead a team in planning, organising and running activities around your Module’s theme. You will be responsible for sourcing and coordinating activities together with your ‘Activity Specialists’. Each Module needs to cater for up to 500 participants per day. A small set of these activities will be tested at the National Moot in December.

Under each Module we are also looking for Activity Specialists to plan and run exciting activities aligned to your Module theme. This could be a skill from your Scouting career, or a personal hobby or professional skill that aligns with the Module theme. There will be a team of volunteers who will assist with running the base.

On-site Modules include:

  • Fabriek: Innovation and creation: technology, hand craft and digital skills. Robotics, 3d printing, rope making, amateur radios and more!

  • Gijima!: Physical skills and water activities: sailing, canoeing, commando course, and traditional games.
  • Veldcraft: Scouting and outdoor life skills: fire lighting, foraging, pioneering, camping, stalking, tracking and outdoor living.

Off-site Modules include:

  • Ubuntu: Community service: daily, 100 participants will get involved in community service projects. We aim to build a visible legacy for the Moot around the province and are looking for a series of small clean-up, construction, and environmental projects in partnership with local NPOs and community organisations.
  • Egoli: a 1-day tour of Johannesburg by bus and on foot: Vilakazi street, apartheid museum, Hillbrow, Modderfontein, and Joburg’s rich cultural and historic landscape.
  • Keen to run an overnight ‘away’ activity? Apply for the Sho’t Left Adventure Base Leader: plan and run one of the 5 overnight ‘away’ activities in Gauteng – catering for up to 100 participants per night over 5 nights. Currently proposed activities include raft building, hiking, rowing, caving and a safari expedition.

What skills are we looking for:

  • Experience in planning and leading events at a District Level.
  • Ability to manage and train a volunteer team.
  • For on-site modules, you don’t need to be familiar with Gauteng – we will manage the entire event within the campsite.
  • Rovering experience is helpful, but we welcome applicants from other branches who are open minded about working with the 18-25 age group.
  • On agreement with your Crew council, leading a module or expedition could count towards your Event Planner Award.

To apply:

  • Send a short Scout CV and a cover email
  • Tell us if you would like to volunteer as a Module Leader or Activity Specialist, and which one.
  • Email: [email protected]. Applications close: 31 August 2025.
