Respect for oneself, others and our environment!

Akela 2016 kicks off today! Who are the volunteers behind the scene that are making this fabulous event happen? David Osmond is not only the Regional Commissioner for the Gauteng Region, he is also the Financial Controller for Akela 2016.

Dave osmondSSA: How long have you been involved in the Scouting Movement?
In total I have been involved for 38 years.

SSA: Why did you join the Cubbing branch?
I wanted to be in Cubs because my friend was a Cub. The only way I could join immediately was if my mother went into uniform. There was a waiting list of boys who wanted to part of the Pack, but if a parent joined then you could join as well. So she did.

SSA: Name one of the most meaningful memories you have of your time in Cubbing?
The most meaningful memories I have of my time as a Cub are firstly becoming a senior Sixer in 1st Bearario Seeonee Cub Pack and secondly getting my Leaping Wolf badge.

SSA: What drives you to be of service to children?
The Movement has such a solid base of values that are positive, children are our future and they need as much solid guidance that they can get so that society will have a solid foundation. Respect for oneself, others and our environment!

SSA: What makes a good Akela / Pack Scouter?
Someone who is a role model that children can look up to, an anchor in stormy seas. A person who will listen to you when you cry and are sad.

SSA: What are you personally looking forward to for Akela 2016?
The sharing of knowledge and understanding of the cultures of other people in this diverse organization we call Scouting. To break down man-made divides and unite under the umbrella of Scouting,

SSA: What do you hope Akela 2016 achieves?
The Ubuntu Spirit!
