Dear Patrol Leaders and Scouters,
The Regional Team has taken the decision to combine the traditional February Ubuntu Camp with the Africa Scout Day celebrations being hosted by SCOUTS South Africa in March. This is to ensure support for this important event being hosted in our region.
What is Africa Scout Day?
Africa Scout Day, is celebrated annually on March 13, as an opportunity for Scouts, leaders, and supporters across the continent to come together in unity, to celebrate the achievements of Scouting, and to reflect on the challenges and aspirations for the future. Under the theme “Strong Roots. Bright Future.” Africa Scout Day 2026 celebrates growth, continuity, and the power of a solid foundation. Just as a tree can only rise tall when its roots run deep, so too can Scouts succeed when grounded in values, heritage and teamwork.
Dates and Venue
The Africa Scout Day main event will take place from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March 2026 at Arrowe Park Scout Camp (Ebenezer St, Lakefield, Benoni). Patrols can arrive from 15h00 on Friday and must be in camp by 17h30. The official closing of the camp takes place at 14h30 on Sunday.
The Challenge
SCOUTS South Africa’s Gauteng Region will be hosting visiting Scout Patrols from neighbouring provinces and countries in Africa. We need local Gauteng Patrols to rise to the challenge of giving these Scouts a warm South African welcome and hosting them for the weekend.
Each visiting Patrol will be paired with a local Gauteng Patrol for the weekend, and will camp, cook and participate in event activities together. For practical reasons, the Gauteng Patrol must provide tents and purchase food for the visitors. A catering budget to a maximum of R250 (2 x breakfasts, 2 x lunches and 2 x dinners) has been budgeted for each Scout in the visiting Patrol. The visiting Patrols will pay for this as part of their event fee. You will receive confirmation and information about the Scouts you are hosting and any special dietary requirements by the 1st March. Visiting Patrols are limited to 8 Scouts maximum. They will be accompanied by an adult Scouter who will also camp with them.
The aim of the camp is to learn from each other and have fun in the true sprint of Scouting.
Activities
A range of special Africa Scout Day activities will be provided, as well as water activities on the lake. The East Rand Radio Club will also be in attendance, operating an HF station and other technology-related bases, including an escape room. Your Patrol will not need to arrange activities.
Participation Fees
The camp fee for Gauteng local Scouts as part of a Hosting Patrol is R250.00, which includes the following;
- Camping fees for the weekend
- Africa Scout Day scarf and event badge
- Africa Scout Day activities
This amount does not include your Patrol food costs or transport to the camp.

Patrol Requirements
Each participating Patrol is expected to arrange the following;
- Provide and budget for its own food for the weekend, which includes planning a suitable South African themed menu that meets the dietary requirements of the visiting Patrol.
- Tents and camping equipment for the two Patrols for the weekend, boys and girls separate as usual (including tents for adult Scouters).
- Consent forms for all local Scouts participating, which are to be handed in on arrival at camp.
- A responsible Scouter, who will be present for the duration of the event.
- Removal of all your refuse and rubbish upon departure.

This event is open to a maximum of 20 local Gauteng Host Patrols. Apply early to secure your place.
