Kim Shield

Kim Shield 2024 Patrol Applications have closed

The closing date of the 25 August for NEW Patrol entries has come and gone.

If a Patrol has registered, the PL+APL+TS will have been sent an “Acceptance Letter” email which will explain in detail what is required. If a PL still has not received this Letter, please WhatsApp Rolf. PL’s and TS’s only have a few  days left to get their Patrol members sorted out and to make payment before the 31 August. The PL’s TS is able to make patrol member changes on their behalf!

We look forward to Welcoming the 75 Patrols to the biggest, most exciting Patrol Challenge on the Scouting calendar.

The KIM SHIELD CHALLENGE has been in existence over twenty-five years. Over that time, many Patrols have taken up the challenge to become the best Standing Patrol in the Gauteng Region and walk away with the coveted trophy.

The event will be held from Friday 6th September 2024 – Sunday 8th September 2024, at a venue located in the Hekpoort area. This challenge constitutes an incident hike, where you and your patrol will be required to complete as many bases as possible.

This weekend should be considered as a Patrol hike. You will be expected to cater your own food. A daypack is suggested with a packed lunch and enough water (2 litres per person). Each patrol must supply their own compass and first aid kit for the hike. Each patrol member should have their own survival kit too.

Directions to the venue will be issued in due course once you and your patrol have accepted the challenge. The cost for KIM SHIELD will be R100.00 per Scout, which includes venue fees, event badge and costs that cover running the bases. Please remember that this does not include catering for the weekend.

The closing date for entries is Friday, 23rd August 2024.

Payment Details

This year you Patrol will not pay for Kim Shield directly into the Kim Shield Bank Account.

Once you have registered your patrol for Kim Shield you will get a confirmation message.

Then make payment for your Patrol into your Troops bank account.

The Chief Judge will contact each Troop Scouter directly to arrange payment for all patrols.

PL’s & Scouters: In the past, Troops have block booked (say four) Patrols into the competition, but on the day will only have two patrols participating. This is unfair on those Patrols that really do want to participate but must be turned away.

Please can you enter or book for patrols that you know will attend. We must cap the total number of patrols to 60. To avoid this, Patrols are only booked once paid for in full. If you need to cancel a Patrol, please let us know ASAP so that patrols on the waiting list can be informed.

As stated above, this event is a Patrol challenge where it is expected that each Patrol should be self-sufficient for the weekend.

For a Patrol to take part in the Challenge, a Patrol must have at least 5 members.

Standing Patrols are recommended, any Power Patrols will be heavily penalised.

Ideally a Patrol should consist of between 5 -8 Scouts, if you cannot make the minimum 5, please discuss this with other Patrols in your District to join.

It is hoped that you and your Patrol accept the Challenge, and possibly at the end of the Challenge, hold the KIM SHIELD trophy aloft!
