In 2011, the UN proclaimed the 30th of July to be an International Day of Friendship. Friendship between peoples, countries, and cultures can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.
So today we remind ourselves of the oath we take as Scouts to “be a friend to all and a brother to every other Scout.” The camaraderie that Scouting brings and the friendships formed are like no other. Scouts are a social force that promote a culture of peace and are empowered to make a constructive contribution to their communities, country and environment.
